The museum has a collection of several aviation related vehicles. From the Simon Gloster Faro Protector II fire fighting vehicle, to the Bedford Crew Bus which featured on the hit TV series Bangers & Cash.

Spiney Norman

Come and see our TV star “Spiney Norman”, the 1958 Bedford D122 Crew bus from the hit TV series, Bangers & Cash.

Once an RAF Vulcan Bomber crew bus, it was bought by the Woodseats Explorer Scouts in Sheffield who used it to travel to Europe, Pyrenees, Bulgaria and Spain.

It is now at the Solway Aviation Museum where it has been reunited with a Vulcan Bomber once again.

Simon Gloster Faro Protector II

The Protector II 4×4 airfield rapid intervention vehicle, or ‘Crash 1’, is a medium duty fire fighting vehicle designed specifically for use against fires involving aircraft.

It is fitted with the Detroit Diesel 8V-92TA engine, a twin disc 496 torque convertor / power divider.

It carries a crew of four including the driver and quick-action fire fighting and rescue equipment.

Douglas Super-Taskmaster Aircraft Tug

The Douglas Super Taskmaster Aircraft Tug is Powered by a Perkins 4 cylinder engine, and was used by the RAF for a number of years.

The Tug was built in 2000, and served in Afghanistan before being donated to the museum in 2020 by the Imperial War Museum.
