The Solway Aviation Museum, based at Carlisle Airport, is home to a collection of aircraft, aviation artefacts, and displays reflecting Britain’s position as a world leader in aircraft design and innovation at the dawn of the jet age.
The museums’ primary objective is the preservation of our Aviation heritage, it’s display and interpretation. Take a nostalgic journey back to Wartime Cumberland and the men and women of the RAF who served in World War II.
The museum is run by a dedicated team of volunteers who give up their free time to painstakingly restore many of the exhibits. Through their love and knowledge they are preserving aviation history for generations to come.

*The museum has an on site car park, as well as a disabled car park for visitors. We also have an overflow car park for busier times that involves a short walk to the museum.
**A wheelchair and a small electric mobility buggy are available upon request.
Safety at the Museum
Children
Please keep children with you at all times. Do not let them run around freely, climb onto the aircraft, or lift them onto the wings of the aircraft.
Dogs
Dogs are welcome at the museum, but are not allowed within the museum buildings. Dogs must be kept on a lead at all times.
The Museum is situated on a live airfield, right next to the main road that runs around the airport perimeter. There are vehicles moving constantly around the airfield.

Take the A74(M) or the A7 to J44 of the M6, then follow the A689 for Carlisle Airport.
Once there, follow signs for the Aviation Museum.
From the EAST
Take the A69 west and follow to the roundabout just past Brampton, then follow the A689 for Carlisle Airport.
Once there, follow signs for the Aviation Museum.
From the SOUTH
Take the M6 to J44 and then follow the signs for the A689 and Carlisle Airport.
Once there, follow signs for the Aviation Museum.
