The Sea Prince T Mk.1 was designed to meet Specification T17/49, which gave details of the Royal Navy requirement for a “Flying Classroom”.

Changes had to be made to the previous Sea Prince model which included the nose had to be lengthened to accommodate radar.

The fuselage also had to be fitted out to accommodate three trainees, plus radar and wireless equipment, and the engine nacelles were widened.

WP314 was built at Luton by Percival Aircraft in 1952. It spent much of its working life with 750 Squadron until replaced by the Jetstream T2 in 1978.

It was purchased from a breakers yard by a preservation group who planned to fly it again, but due to severe wing corrosion the plan was abandoned and it was passed to the museum in 1994.
