Historic Vulcan takes to skies over Carlisle

THE unique roar of a Vulcan Bomber was heard over the skies of Carlisle for the first time in 25 years yesterday.

The Vulcan XH558, built in the 1950s, is one of only 16 of the aircraft still surviving from a total production of 136, and is the last example still flying.

It costs a whopping £135,000 every time it leaves the ground.
